Week of October 12, 2009. The Future of E-mail Communications.

In today’s Wall Street Journal, you can find an article discussing the future of e-mail communications and how social networks are changing the way we communicate with others.

The article, The Email Reign Is Over , begins with the following paragraph:
“Email has had a good run as king of communications, but its reign is over. In its place, a new generation of services is starting to take hold— Twitter, Facebook and countless others. And just as email did, this shift promises to profoundly rewrite the way we communicate—in ways we can only begin to imagine.”

How do you feel about the changes discussed in this article? What kind of impact do you think these changes will have in the business environment? More specifically, in the way firms conduct business with consumers in the United States?

I for one check my facebook a few times a day and spend time checking messages and replying to friends in family. I rarely talk to my family on the phone, we communicate via facebook. I don’t check my email as much because it is constantly spam mail. I think that the social networks are a great way for businesses to reach out to their consumers. Everyone has a facebook or twitter page, they have ads all over the website plus they have their own pages on these sites. It gives them an opportunity to reach a new a new audience. Businesses can branch out more now. People ignore business emails because they’re annoying. Facebook pages have a good way of showing brief information that gets the readers attention. With theh new features such as the “like” and “become a fan” tools on facebook it also gives companies a good idea of how they are doing. Over all i think that e-mail will be around for a while longer mostly because of the generations using. But it’s definatly going out the door.

I think that social networks are a revelation, facebook having the biggest impact, I feel that they will be quite useful for promoting businesses and attracting a new batch of clientele. The article goes on to talk about how “we are always connected to the internet whether it be sitting at a desk or on a mobile phone”. That is so true, especially of business people, who most of them have a blackberry attatched at the hip (no offense, professor. I do too.) An article on AARP discusses how people can communicate so fast on facebook, rather than emailing, and how it could keep the business world running faster than ever because you can have replies instantly instead of waiting. Facebook, twitter, whatever you want to use is going to change the pace of businesses everywhere soon enough because it is just so much easier than other means businesses use daily.

  3. avalanche324 says:

There are new ways to communicate and connect with people nowadays. From Facebook to Twitter and MySpace, they are all new great ways to connect and communicate with others. But I feel email will never be replaced entirely. I am a 20 year old student who checks his Facebook at least 15-20 times a week. I am connected with teachers at my school, people I work with and family across the world. Although I am connect via Facebook, I need my email as well. Even though I don’t even use it as much as my Facebook account, it is my way of a more “serious” communication with others. I feel without email, people would seem to connect personal life to business which I don’t feel is a good idea. It somewhat like having a home telephone line and a business phone. You need to have a separation between the two, and with that I don’t feel as if email will ever be replaced entirely. It may and most likely will grow to become more technologically advanced in ways, but will always remain. That is why I believe email will never be replaced.

I feel that Facebook/Twitter will only have a minor impact with businesses. It lacks the ability to centrally archeive which is the abilty to store data/back data up. You cannot manage facebook with a corparate perspective, plus email is becoming a legal business document. Facebook/Twitter is becoming very popular with a large population, businesses could possibly change their current forms of advertisment. With facebook having a large population and continuely growing placing advertisement through facebook would be an excellent way to show your product. In conclusion I feel that facebook currently is a form of social communication and not business communication.

  5. sflores says:

E-mail used to be the new and hip thing for people. Now this has shifted to Facebook and Twitter. Through these sites you can leave messages for other privately or leave a note to share with everyone that is your “friend” on Facebook. On Twitter you can leave updates that you would not tell people otherwise. I do not think the new era of communications is good for businesses and some people do not realize that what they did five years ago is still available on the internet. Also, depending on your privacy settings on Facebook, one can look at your information. For example, my girlfriend is a teacher and if they have a facebook page it must stay private and they are not allowed to accept anyone that is there student or who is underage. This is a school policy and that is because there are younger people on facebook. Also, Facebook and Twitter are not good communicaions for companies because they are allowed to have those under the age of 18 on the website. We need to do more e-mail and teleconferencing when meeting in person times are not feesible.

  6. BlkSab4712 says:

I feel the changes in electronic communication and networking are a huge success, due to the ease of contacting and conversing with others. However, I do not believe any of these networking websites such as Facebook or Twitter will have any impact on business world. The main problem is these sites are not as private as they would need to be for the business world. Unfortunately, anyone with a camera and a Facebook account can potentially post incriminating pictures of anyone they want for everyone to see. Facebook and similar sites are good for social networking, but until a more private and secure networking site perhaps created FOR businesses arrives, the old email will probably remain the main way of communication within business.

  7. itsz-Jniice says:

I completely disagree with the article, because not everyone has face book, twitter, my space, etc. Many people are still using email to communicate. My space, face book, and twitter are more into the gossip world, advertisement, and long distant communication. Also face book, my space, and twitter are not appropriate for every age group, and many people under the age of 21 use those pages for and it wouldn’t be a great source for companies to use. I feel like companies communicate better via email, or there own personal website with blog or etc. Many companies do promote there business by those website but it haven’t made a great impact, so most likely email will never be over.

  8. cmcdonou05 says:

In ways that the telephone and Internet transformed society and through a wrench into the traditional business model, social networking Website will do just the same.

For instance I check my Facebook almost a dozen times a day, my MySpace a couple times a week and well I don’t have a twitter, I often browse the twitter pages of people i know. Meanwhile I rarely check my email.

These social networking Website are worth billions of dollars. the reason behind this is the advertising on those sites cost a substantial amount because they reach a large audience almost constantly all day long.

to me this is a powerful medium that businesses will use in the future to reach a particular target audience in a faster, more effective manner because companies ca rely on a group of people consistently checking and updating these sites, thus more exposure for an advertiser.

  9. jones123 says:

Social networking sites such as twitter and facebook will never be a successful tool for a business to conduct their work. Those sites are set up for the user to communicate with friends and family. Having a private email to communicate with just co workers is still the best way of going about it. If my boss added me on facebook( I’d be creeped out), i would decline his friend request. Email remains the most suitable option for companies.

  10. SerD.01960 says:

In a way I agree with the article but only to certain extend. I do believe that the use of e-mail is slowing down but I don’t think its dying. I believe that despite Face Book, Tweeter, etc continued growth I don’t think e-mail is going anywhere and we will continue to use e-mail for many years to come. The reason why I think that is I know a lot of people that still don’t have and don’t care about either Face Book or Tweeter and these people are in their early 20s. Also, a lot of the other countries don’t have and never even heard of Face Book or Tweeter. Until other country’s start discovering other ways to communicate besides e-mail, I think that e-mail is going to be around for many years to come.

  11. jsharkey1989 says:

As discussed in the article, email is being replaced by social networks such as facebook and twitter. I believe that this is an easier way to reach out to consumers as a whole, rather than to specific people or groups of people. Facebook gives businesses the opportunity to advertise in a way that is more beneficial to a company. E-mail requires knowing each recipient’s address, whereas on facebook and twitter, it is a lot easier to contact people that one is not directly in contact with. For example, a simple posting of a business or event can be viewed by anyone on the social network through friends and acquaintences. There is a larger possibility of reaching your target market than with a simple email. When most people check their email, it is most likely that they will delete any messages from unfamiliar senders. Facebook allows advertisements or invitations to be posted, along with a description of the ad, before people simply click delete. I, personally, have been exposed to things on facebook that I would never give an opportunity to look into if it were sent by email. I believe that these social networks are more beneficial to marketing businesses than email will ever be. Email is becoming a thing of the past as the majority of the United States is now relying on facebook and twitter as a way to interact and socialize.

  12. RClapp6014 says:

Much like email surpassed physical mail, there will be a new type of communication that will dethrone email too. While email is, time-wise, inefficient, mostly due to sending times (especially in peak office periods), there are new types of communication being developed, such as Google Wave. According to Google, Google Wave will be “both a conversation and a document, where people can work together discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.” This takes the speed of instant messaging and the email’s ability to send important files, creating a useful and expedient form of communication. This may even be used by many companies to hold meetings, and provides a great way to immediately show coworkers important charts or graphs. While I don’t think the technology of email will be entirely lost, I do believe that it will be used as a basis for newer and more efficient ways of communication.

  13. immortal says:

Even tho email is being taken over by different social networking site like Facebook and Twitter it serves a different purpose.Email is much more informal way of contacting than Twitter and Facebook. Most jobs contact their employees through email and not by any social networking site.”Whole Foods Markets” still uses emails to contact their employees because it is more professional according to Jason Gardivali(branch manager). In conclusion, email will serve a different purpose and it will always be around.

How do you feel about the changes discussed in this article? What kind of impact do you think these changes will have in the business environment? More specifically, in the way firms conduct business with consumers in the United States?

I think that the changes mentioned in this article could have a positive effect on business environments. i, however, personally do not like some of the changes mentioned. i think Email is a much better form of communication for the office environment because it does not allow people to follow personal desires. with Aim, Twitter, and Facebook; there are many different ways to communicate with other people. while this could lead to possible greater productivity, it could also lead to procrastination of certain job functions. this is due to the fact that these programs are “social networks.” social networks are meant for socializing, not for business (though buisness can be conducted over social networks). with proper restrictions, i can see a possible positive effect in using these networks for business.

  16. lemonvenus says:

I believe that the business environment has been hugely affected by networking sites such as Facebook in a positive way. In the article, “Using Facebook for Business Networking” by Kevin Gault found at whitepapersource.com, Gault writes, “According to a recent study by Aberdeen Group, top companies are using social-networking sites like Facebook to achieve improved interaction with customers. The study revealed that companies that use social-networking websites are 17 times more likely to improve customer satisfaction than companies that don’t use the sites.” It’s easy to advertise on Facebook because a company can set up a profile with a link to their business page, or they can display advertisements that show up on the side of everyone’s profile. Networking sites have added an easy way for businesses to reach consumers.

  17. 0117 says:

The changes discussed in the article, The E-mail Reign is Over, will have a significant impact in the business environment as well as with the way firms conduct business with consumers in the United States. Like the article says, “They make our interactions that much faster”. E-mail is like a game of phone tag: a waiting game, and these days nobody has patience anymore. Consumers like instant gratification and when a business uses these new services like Facebook, Twitter, and texting, it appeals to them. Also, with these new types of communication services, business’s can get work done much faster and there is no waiting around for responses. “While making communication more frequent, they can also make it less personal and intimate.” which could be a negative impact especially on small businesses because having that personal communication can be reassuring to consumers. There is a positive and negative side to using these new communication services and it is going to change the business environment and the way firms conduct business with consumers.

  18. catastrophe says:

As easy as social networking sites like facebook, twitter, and myspace are to stay connected, I don’t see them taking the place of e-mail. From a business standpoint, it’s much easier to send a mass e-mail. When you get mixed up with sites like facebook, you have to make sure all your employs actual use the site and not everyone does. There are still people out there who can only navigate the internet very little. Sites like Twitter could be totally foreign to them. E-mail is something that has been around for a long time. People are more likely to have an e-mail account than a AIM username. As technologically advanced this day and age is, I don’t see how a business executive can send out an important mass ‘tweet’ using 140 characters or less.

  19. amielf says:

The future of e-mail is evolving. “Email has had a good run as king of communications, but its reign is over. In its place, a new generation of services is starting to take hold— Twitter, Facebook and countless others”. I personally don’t have twitter or facebook, but the e-mail getting dethroned means something better took over. This changes won’t cause any big changes in the business environment, because I think most business transactions will still use the e-mail for a few more years, because they’re used to it. In the future business will not be using e-mail anymore, they’ll be using something specific for a business environment.

  20. lemonvenus says:

  21. howie amaral says:

Social networking sites have started a revolution; not only for personal communication but potentially for the way business is done. The days of logging-on and checking email are long gone, seeing as social networking sites and instant messengers provide instantaneous communication. This increases a company’s efficiency greatly. Companies can also use these sites to reach a wide variety of consumers that may buy products. Eventually, everything will be integrated and everything will be much easier than we had ever imagined. Whether it’s in the workplace or just at home, the new generation of communications is changing the way things are done.

  22. trosa says:

Being connected to the world, and knowing what is new at all times is a necessity nowadays. E-mail changed the way we communicated for more than a decade, but as times goes by we have the need to get information and messages across sooner and safer. There are many steps that a person needs to take in order to check their email, firms and companies need something like a face book but safer and restricted. I believe that the future of email, is a more advanced instant messenger, that can be checked on phones and be available anywhere. That will change communication even more, bringing more innovation to this country.

  23. ThEBiGCaT213 says:

I believe email won’t be replaced but will be used less because many people and businesses use social networking sites like twitter, facebook, and myspace to communicate. The reason I say this is because many businesses would try to be more professional and communicate with there clients or employees through email and be more private. But they can use these sites to talk with there customers and make advertisements because more people now in days just use these sites to check on whats going on in the world. its pointless for businesses to send advertisements through email because it will just be spam mail and everyone would delete it before even reading the advertisement. Also the majority of people using facebook, myspace, and twitter are young people. In the future these social networking sites and others would be the primary way how people communicate but for now email will still be one of many ways to communicate but won’ be that popular.

  24. dani.schneider says:

I do agree that e-mail usage has decreased. With new technologies like Facebook, Twitter, and many others, including text messages, e-mail is being used less everyday. For example, Facebook has over 300 million users. Therefore, the business environment will problably start advertising much more on websites like this one since so many people look at it everyday. Firms conduct business with consumers basically through the Internet. The internet business wil be very effective in the future, more than it already is now.

  25. BridgetheGap says:

I’ve read the article about email’s reign and I think that it’s crap. I mean email is still an effective means of communication today. To send gift certificates, special offers, newsletters, etc. you can’t do that with Twitter and Facebook. Not everyone has Twitter of Facebook because of privacy issues and sharing of information throughout the net. Twitter can be used to announce meetings, maybe offer ideas and have people “follow” it and give their own opinions. But for email usage, it is still a way for people to communicate their business and so email is not over yet.

  26. jaybird24 says:

In the article The Email Reign Is Over it discusses how society is using different ways to communicate. There are so many new ways for people to communicate with each other nowadays. I think the changes discussed in this article are helpful to society because it’s creating a new, easier and faster way for people to communicate with each other. People will always use their emails, but now that there is a fast and better way to talk to each other, emails won’t get as much attention. Since there are new websites such as facebook, myspace, and twitter offer communication with others, people find it a lot easier than an email. Facebook, myspace, and twitter don’t take as long to contact someone like an email does. I think this change in the social networks will help the business environment because business can pay more attention to their consumer’s needs, and wants. Business’ will be able to find out what consumers think of the product whether it’s good or bad. I think companies would find it better to advertise their products by using facebook, or twitter because it’s a social community online and more people would find out about their products. They can also click “like” if they like the product or “become a fan” which gives the business feedback on what they are selling Overall, I think the business environment will find that facebook, myspace, and twitter are a good source to get feedback from their consumers. I think the changes in the social network will keep getting better making it easier for people to communicate which will help companies in many ways.

  27. jguptill01 says:

This is just another branch of technonogy. Facebook, twitter and myspace
create a more personal atmosphere between people. With these programs you really feel like your interacting with people in real time,
instead of just communicating through a format that does not exactly
give a quick response such as email. For businesses, I think they will try
programs such as facebook because it is just another form of connecting
with customer’s. Customers can also get a greater feel for the company through facebook witch i think gives out amore personal vibe then email.
Facebook, twitter and myspace are quicker ways to communicate. And maybe most importantly, they are what is popular at this time. It is only
natural for programs or really anything that has been out for a long time
eventually be replaced because the public wants newer and more exciting options. It is just the next step in technology advancment.

  28. vova says:

The social networks like Facebook, Twitter and others are the greatest idea for this past decade. Email was great for many reasons as well in the past, but now more people are logged on either on their computers, laptops, even now cellphones, updating every minute of their life. Partaken in these social networks makes you feel more connected to the world. In having these types of available resources in the office of a business it makes it easier to communicate with its employers and there customers. We can constantly post new material so everyone can see it, you can even chat live with one another. The only negative thing about these sites, are that you can only type a certain number of characters. But you can always post and have everyone know to look at their emails for the full text. Having these types of networks at this day and age makes you think what else can be invited that can make communication much easier.

  29. mkaur02 says:

I believe that even in today’s world even though face book, twitter, myspace is getting ahead from email, but I still think that it is not professional and private. I think e-mail is more professional and private than any other publically used websites. Business have more private things, and if employers want to talk to their associates , they would prefer emails not facebook. Facebook, twitter or myspace is a good way to talk to friends and family to keep in touch with them. Facebook is also good for advertisements, sale and to send messages to customers around the country which I think would increase the sale. But for business use I think E-mail is the best.

  30. jthomas01 says:

In todays world email is used but its not a main way for communication. Many sites are starting social networks and as the article illustrates, Facebook, Twitter and Myspace are popular sites with millions of users on each. Even celebrities has one of the threes. I myself is a facebook addict and is on it constantly checking and communicating with other individuals. In the business sense i do believe Business’s are using these sites as a good way for promotion and other means. Overall i see Email being used less and less as time progresses and these social network sites make a bigger impact!.

  31. torlando says:

I believe that social networking sights, such as Facebook and Twitter, will greatly affect the way companies connect with their customers. Personally, I have not checked my e-mail in months, but I’m on Facebook almost every day. If companies started using social networking sights, they would be able to reach a very diverse group of people from all over the world. Not only would they be able to advertise their business, but employees would be able to keep in contact with each other without having to wait for a response, like they would if they were using e-mail. I believe companies should start using social networking sights because not only would it broaden their market, but it would help communication throughout the workplace.

  32. Lisa T says:

I believe the article is correct, the email reign as the best form of communication is over! We have seen over the past few years more social networking sites pop up online that has allowed people not only to email other persons, but allowed a wealth of opportunity for advitersiers and creative people to market, sell, and promote products and services quickly and reach millions of people worldwide, all in the blink of an eye. Even sites such as E-Harmony has allowed a user to stay at home and scope out a potential spouse. Who would have thought! Just allowing companies to be able to gather market research on a product or service is an invaluable tool, and probably one of the most valuable data collection available today and pretty much controlled by the users. Instant up-to-date services such as Twitter I believe will start to be more effective as well since a user can post an immediate message that will hit a user instantaneoulsy, promoting quick responses..mabybe an announcement of a private sale at your favorite store that only is available to Twitter users with a passcode in them message. How many people do you think many people would be flocking to the store with the passcode! Technology such asx these communication tools and market reearch tools only can improve consumer knowledge and get better over time.

  33. drsouce169 says:

I agree with the article’s statement. E-mail for a time, was one of the most effective business tools. It provided fast and easy communication for people in and out of the business world. Now, with social networking sites, like facebook and twitter, it can connect people faster and on a larger scale. Both facebook and twitter provide instant communication through a chat feature. Not only can you access these sites through a computer but both sites have a mobile feature, so you can access the information you need where ever you are on almost any phone. Not only do these sites let people in the work place stay connected, but advertisements on these sites can reach millions, where emails can only reach a select few.

  34. sblanchette says:

The business world is being conducted in a completely different way than it was say 10 years ago. In the work place, like the article says, employees have many different ways to communicate with each other such as phone, email, twitter, facebook, instant messages, and txt message. A few years ago people mainly used the phone and email and that was fast enough. At the rate that technology is growing eventually we will have an even faster way to communicate, maybe just using our thought, just an idea. Most businesses use all the new networking sites like twitter and facebook to gain information from the consumer at a very fast rate. They can email a customer or put a tweet or a status update up and see how people respond store it away somewhere and use that information for future marketing, and they can do all of this in minutes!

  35. dhanlon03 says:

Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace are a couple of the “communicating websites” that have made quite an impact. In the business world changes have occurred in the way they communicate. AIM and instant messaging are beginning to be used by more and more businesses because it saves time and also saves money. Phone calls to communicate with people in your workplace are being used less and less. Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace are being used more with cell phones as well as computers.

  36. cmurphy03 says:

While, social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook flourish, I still do not see E-mail going anywhere anytime soon. According to techcrunchies.com, a corporate manager in 2009 sends 38 emails and receives 98 email per day, on average. The social networking bug has just recently struck nationally in corporations, and companies reach out to certain target markets through these networking sites. And although sites like Twitter and Facebook offer great fields for promoting both business and product, I do not see companies or schools (colleges), for that matter, dropping email completely. E-mail is still the ideal ground for communication among businesses, College networks, and people in general, and will not be forgot about any time soon.

  37. sammydog says:

In this day in age, most people are connecting to the internet wether they are at lunch, in their car, or just watching tv. People don’t need to be infront of a computer anymore to connect to their facebook, myspace, or twitter, it’s on the go now. With all these new ways to contact people and consumers, it’s no surprise that basic email is on its way out. Businesses are now advertising on every site and getting more feedback from those sites then they have in the past, with basic emailing. Businesses have a better chance of getting their product and services out their with these new websites, along with people having a better connection with the people in their lives.

  38. oacholon01 says:

I personally believe that email wont be completely erazed rather less
people may use it.compared to eveyone wanting to send emais.Companies still do use the e-mailsto send informations to either new employees or current workers and i do know for sure they wont do such through facebook or twitter.Perdsonally i think facebook, twitter will be more useful for adverts, publications, for people to know what their organisation is all about. In terms of formal information e-mail still stands out and i dont think it will be erazed unless they come up with something else that could be formal and stands out for than the e-mail.

  39. law724 says:

I personally do not have a facebook and I do not use twitter. However, from what I’ve read about it and heard about it, I do not think it will replace email. Facebook sounds like it is a great way to communicate about your social life, but because it contains such personal information, I do not think it is such a great way to communicate about business. I’m sure there are things one would post on facebook that they do not want their boss or business associates to know about. On the other hand, I do think that facebook could be used as a great advertising tool for your business. I feel that email is a better way to communicate when doing business . It is more personal, professional and direct. I am sure one day something new will eventually replace email, but I do not think it will be facebook or twitter.

  40. rguez21 says:

I believe that although technology has allowed a new generation of services like Facebook and Twitter emails reign is not quite over. When I think of Facebook and Twitter I think of communicating about your social life with old and new friends rather than professional business men and women communicating business ideas. I do not see Facebook or Twitter taking over email to communicate in the business world. According to degarmogroup.com “communicating though email can often result in miscommunication”. Although many people have problems with miscommunication through email I believe technology will eventually develop a new way for business people to communicate more effectivly. According to ezinarticles.com “Using voice over visual messaging rather than just ordinary emails will be a great help for your business. With visual messaging at hand, you’ll have a multiple stream of income and you will see more sales coming to you. I had just found great software for voice over visual messaging”. If businesses begin to use this new software miscommunication will no longer be a problem.

  41. h0ckey524 says:

I believe that internet technology has grown and made new steps toward better communication such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter etc. I believe the majority of people using these websites are under the age of 25. This is a great way for the younger generation to communicate with one another and even let everyone know what they are doing throughout the day. However I do not see people running their businesses and sending messages to others in the business on Facebook, MySpace, or twitter in the business world. I do not think that would be professional because these websites have no privacy compared to sending an email directly to the one person (or persons) and having only them see what was needed rather than everyone. The new technologies on the internet have made a huge impact on communication but I do not see the communications through email ever being extinct.

  42. crecinos01 says:

With all these communication services like Twitter, and, Facebook we have become vey comfortable with being connected all the time. E-mail, even though many people believe it will die in the coming years, is still needed and necessary by many. Company’s and corporations use e-mail to communicate with one another. With a service instead of logging in and out to get your messages, you get your messages instantly. But who wants to be connected all the time with your job, nobody wants to be on call 24 hrs a day when your shift is from 9-5, if you need something wait till the next day, ill get my email then. In my opinion email instead of dying out it will become more efficient very soon.

Facebook, twitter, myspace and the countless number of new internet forums have revolutionized the way people communicate. Unlike the emails, facebook, and others, allows people re-connect or establish new contacts with many different people over a large network. It allows you to seek out new people within the network. This is also what has allowed it to become a valuable asset in the business world. it allows many small business to reach a large number of people at no cost. It can really help when it comes to small businesses. For example the barbershop that I work at started its advertisement through myspace. Through that advertisement he was able to reach a large group of people with no advertisement cost. With facebook and many others now making it to the older generation it is clear that it’s impact is here to stay.

Facebook, Twitter and all the other new generation communication services are a good way to connect to all your friends and distant relatives. Personally I don’t think they are much better then AIM which is a service from AOL which allows you to send an instant message to any of your friends who are online. When it comes to money, these websites aern’t getting money from you, but from the advertisements. These advertisements appear all over their websites. The new technology today in the internet has allowed buisnesses to be more efficant with faster and better internet connection. This allows the buisnesses to be produce faster and therefore make more of a profit. When it comes to the social world, there are many dangers to young users who aern’t careful about the information they post. The whole world is changing and more and more poeple are putting their fath in their computers. Today, computers hold all the information and it is one of the best ways to talk to anyone of your friends.

Technology is taking over everywhere and everyone at an alarming speed yet is stealthy in it’s ways. Everywhere is associated with computers in some form or another including schools, businesses, and even in the home enviroment some people prefer their virtual world to reality. The way businesses can take advantage is to make the “next big thing” like myspace, now it’s facebook, who knows what will be next. If a company can find a way to make everything as fast as a live journal like Twitter and facebook, which is where it is headed quite soon, they will end up being very successful. Sooner or later there will be almost no need for e-mails for companies as long as the make the next big thing easy and portable.

I do not believe that the replacement of email with newer social networking applications will have much effect on the business world. Email replaced the memo, email is for scheduling events and informing in mass on decisions that were not made by email.Businesses prefer audio communication and planned meetings for true decision making.Text messaging will not replace phone calls and video conferencing and if micro-blogging services replace email it won’t increase efficiency in any foreseeable way and will go down as a fairly insignificant milestone.

I believe that social networking is definitely becoming more and more popular. Although a lot of professional firms, and business still communicate via email. Networks such as face book, Myspace, and twitter, are rather personal and some people tend to want their own privacy in the business world. Although some businesses will progress faster through social networking. They are all very popular sights and easy ways to market new business plans, ideas, and groups. Email may not be as popular as it used to be, yet I do not believe it will soon be extinct.

I believe the way everything is going the only way to get in contact with someone is through facebook and twitter. No one uses email anymore because is mostly filled with spam that it is a hassle to get to the important mail that you need. With facebook and twitter there is no spam you know its your friends and family and can respond alot quicker than email. Plus business can easily advertise there products on these sites and people are more likely to respond to what they see. People are on facebook and twitter 24/7 so any business can contact consumers anytime of the day they want and get a quick response. This is why i believe facebook and twitter have taken over email in this point in time.

I believe even with facebook, myspace, and twitter email will still be useful. When most people think about facebook or myspace they make the connection to friends or family, there usually not focused on the line of work or buisness. For many websights when making a purchase on line they wont ask you for your facebook page they will want your email. In the buisness world people are not focus on an individual’s personal life or that single persons personality, as facebook and myspace allow you to express. An email allows you to get right to the point without distractions. Twitter, facebook, and myspace allow for advertisement where email might lack that, but they are also more focused on a persons personal life where email might be better for the work life. Saying that i do not believe email will be completley replaced just yet.

I believe that the email reign is over due to how much more easier it is to communicate with twitter and facebook. with twitter the users are constantly updating their statuses. with face book users post notifications for events, reminders and post updates. Businesses can use these two forms of communication to post updates of sales going on with their business, what the business has to offer, especially since people tend to spend most of their time on facebook and twitter, businesses can use these sites to get to their customers.
